Thousands of years old flutes made of bird bones discovered in Israel

Tel Aviv: Small bones of 12,000-year-old birds of prey found in northern Israel have been found to have been consciously shaped into flutes.

According to media reports, the researchers said that the flutes are made from the bones of birds of prey. A total of 7 small flutes emitted sounds like the calls of birds of prey.

Researchers believe that these flutes may have been used for music, hunting or some form of communication with birds.

These flutes were found in the village of Ainan Malaha near Lake Hula in the Upper Jordan Valley in northern Israel.

One of the 7 flutes is complete and is so far the only ancient flute in the world that is preserved in intact condition.

The settlement was first excavated in 1955 where a variety of structures were found, including the bones of a variety of animals including birds. This settlement was the residential area of hunters.
