ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has expressed concern over mining in Margalla Hills.

A case was heard in the Supreme Court against the occupation of forest lands. Court expressed concern over mining in Margalla Hills.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that trees are visible on the Margalla hills on the Islamabad side, while mining is taking place on the other side of the Margalla hills.

Government lawyer Raja Shafqat said that that area falls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan inquired that encroachment is being established on the forest lands, what measures are the governments taking to plant trees,

the provincial governments tell how many trees have been sold, how many trees have been planted so far, whether public-private partnership. Under the Forest Department land is being leased.

The lawyers of the provincial governments submitted a reply that all the leases have been canceled in light of the court order.

The court asked the four provinces for details about the transfer of forest lands and how many trees were planted after transferring the forest lands.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case for a month while seeking the details of mining on Margalla mountains.
